Practical advice before you travel to Paros
We receive a lot of questions from travellers about boat or flight schedules, mosquitoes, car rental or excursions to nearby islands. We tried to collect the most common ones to help you plan your holiday. If you find anything missing, please feel free to comment below, and we will answer to our best knowledge! We hope that with time, this list will grow into a useful and comprehensive guide for travellers to Paros!
Where can I find information about boat schedules and prices?
Our favourite go-to site is Meltemi Travels’ booking engine because they list all the boats from and to Paros!
Is it necessary to pre-book boat tickets?
Yes, if you are visiting in the high season (July & August), otherwise you can also get boat tickets at the kiosk in Piraeus port, where the boats start from and in the port of Paros when you leave the island. 🚢 This is the place in Piraeus: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DRpCM3WSdkRW8qA26
Can I fly to Paros? Where can I look up flights?
Two companies fly to Paros: Sky Express and Aegean Airways (Olympic Airways is the same company). You can fly in from Athens, but sometimes there are flights in the high season from Thessaloniki too. See more details: How to get to Paros ✈
Are there plenty of taxis in the port/airport?
No. There are 27 taxis in Paros, so just grabbing a cab is not that easy. We strongly recommend booking a transport company if you don’t plan to pick up your rental car right on arrival. Transport companies have minibuses so they can load lots of luggage (unlike taxis), up to 8 people (taxis take 4 people max.) and take appointments in advance (unlike taxis). Taxis in Paros are silver coloured and have the distinctive yellow light on top together with yellow licence plates. Transfer companies usually operate with black minivans and their licence number is indicated on the van. We do recommend Christos and his team at Caravan transfers. Affordable, reliable. 🚕🚐
Are there many mosquitoes on Paros? How can I protect myself and my family?
If it is windy, there are no mosquitoes because they cannot fly. But wind usually dies down for the evenings in the summertime (this is one of the characteristics of the “Meltemi”, the wind that blows in the sumemrtime) and then there are a lot of mosquitoes. Keep mosquito nets closed on the windows, don’t leave doors open, and use over-the-counter mosquito repellent on your skin during the evening hours. They are available from pharmacies or from supermarkets. 🦟🦟🦟
Is it possible to go for a day trip to another island from Paros?
Naxos, Syros, Ios, and, of course, Antiparos are the easiest to visit for a day trip from Paros. There are multiple ferry crossings with cheap ferry tickets. Also in the summertime, there are daily excursions to the sacred island of Delos. 🏝
Is it possible to rent a boat on Paros?
Of course it is! Visiting the most pristine beaches around Paros and Antiparos will be the highlight of your trip. There are lots of boat rental companies mooring in Alyki or Pounta, so one option is to go down to these small ports and talk to them, or you can pre-book your boat, which is advisable for the high season. Our favourites are: ⛵⛵⛵
Can you help me with car/scooter/ATV rental?
Absolutely, we work with two local rental companies. They are both reliable, rent their cars with proper insurance and won’t play tricks with petrol. They deliver the car to your accommodation free of charge, or you can pick it up on arrival at the port or the airport. After booking your accommodation with us, we are happy to point you in the right direction. 🚗🚙🚓
Is it necessary to pre-book my car/scooter/ATV?
It is advisable to pre-book if you visit Paros in the high season. Otherwise, you can rent on arrival; however, you should choose your rental company carefully to avoid disappointment.
How warm/cold is the sea on Paros in different seasons?
The sea temperature does not fluctuate much throughout the year on Paros, and it is between 17 °C in the coldest winter months and 24 °C in the warmest summer months.🌊 If you are interested in seeing the current water temperature and also historical data, we recommend visiting this site: Seatemperature.net/Paros
